Reflecting a little upon the diverse circumstances of life, it is well worth understanding seriously the bases upon which we rest.

One person rests upon his position, another upon money, that one upon prestige, that other upon his past, this other upon such or such a title, etc., etc., etc.

The most curious thing is that all of us, whether rich or begging, need everyone and live from everyone, even if we are inflated with pride and vanity.

Let us think for a moment about what they could take away from us. What would be our fate in a revolution of blood and liquor? What would happen to the bases upon which we rest? Woe to us, we believe ourselves to be very strong and we are frightfully weak!

The "I" that feels in itself the base upon which we rest, must be dissolved if we in reality yearn for authentic Beatitude.

Such an "I" underestimates people, feels itself better than everyone, more perfect in everything, richer, more intelligent, more expert in life, etc.

It turns out to be very opportune to cite now that parable of Jesus the Great KABIR, about the two men who prayed. It was spoken to some who trusted in themselves as righteous, and despised the others.

(LUCAS XVIII, 10-14)

Jesus the Christ, said: "Two men went up into the Temple to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other a Publican. The Pharisee, standing, prayed with himself in this manner: God. I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this Publican: I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the Publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying: "God be merciful to me a sinner". I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted". (LUKE XVIII, 10-14)

To begin to realise the own nothingness and misery in which we find ourselves, is absolutely impossible as long as there exists in us that concept of the "More". Examples: I am more just than that one, wiser than so-and-so, more virtuous than what's-his-name, richer, more expert in the things of life, more chaste, more dutiful in his duties, etc., etc., etc.

It is not possible to pass through the eye of a needle as long as we are "rich", as long as there exists in us that complex of the "More".

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God".

That of your school being the best and my neighbour's being useless; that of your Religion being the only true one, the wife of so-and-so is a terrible wife and that mine is a saint; That of my friend Roberto being a drunkard and that I am a very sensible and abstemious man, etc., etc., etc., is what makes us feel rich; reason for which we are all the "CAMELS" of the biblical parable in relation to the esoteric work.

It is urgent to self-observe ourselves from moment to moment with the purpose of clearly knowing the foundations upon which it rests.

When one discovers that which most offends one in a given instant; the bother they gave one for this or that thing; then one discovers the bases upon which one psychologically rests.

Such bases constitute according to the Christian Gospel "the sands upon which he built his house".

It is necessary to carefully note how and when one despised others feeling superior perhaps due to the title or to the social position or to the acquired experience or to the money, etc., etc., etc.

Grave it is to feel oneself rich, superior to so-and-so or to what's-his-name for this or that reason. People like this cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Good it is to discover in what one feels flattered, in what one's vanity is satisfied, this will come to show us the foundations upon which we lean.

However, such class of observation must not be a merely theoretical matter, we must be practical and observe ourselves carefully in a direct manner, from instant to instant.

When one begins to understand one's own misery and nothingness; when one abandons the delusions of grandeur; when one discovers the foolishness of so many titles, honours and vain superiorities over our fellow men it is an unequivocal sign that one already begins to change.

One cannot change if one closes oneself to that which says: "My house". "My money". "My properties". "My employment". "My virtues". "My intellectual capacities". "My artistic capacities". "My knowledge". "My prestige" etc., etc., etc.

That of clinging to "Mine" to "Me", is more than sufficient as to prevent recognising our own nothingness and inner misery.

One is amazed before the spectacle of a fire or of a shipwreck; then desperate people many times seize things that cause laughter; things without importance.

Poor people!, They feel themselves in those things, they rest upon foolishnesses, they become attached to that which has not the slightest importance.

To feel oneself through exterior things, to base oneself upon them, equates to being in a state of absolute unconsciousness.

The sentiment of the "SEITY", (The REAL BEING), is only possible by dissolving all those "I's" that in our Interior we carry; before, such sentiment turns out to be something more than impossible.

Unfortunately the worshippers of the "I" do not accept this; they believe themselves Gods; they think that they already possess those "Glorious Bodies" of which Paul of Tarsus spoke; they suppose that the "I" is Divine and there is no one to remove such absurdities from their head.

One does not know what to do with such people, one explains to them and they do not understand; always attached to the sands upon which they built their house; always stuck in their dogmas, in their whims, in their foolishnesses.

If those people were to seriously self-observe themselves, they would verify for themselves the doctrine of the many; they would discover inside themselves all that multiplicity of persons or "I's" that live inside our interior.

How could the real sentiment of our true BEING exist in us, when those "I's" are feeling for us, thinking for us?

The gravest of all this tragedy is that one thinks that one is thinking, feels that one is feeling, when in reality it is another who in a given moment thinks with our martyred brain and feels with our pained heart.

Unhappy us!, How many times we believe to be loving and what happens is that another inside oneself full of lust utilises the centre of the heart.

We are unfortunate ones, we confuse animal passion with love!, and nevertheless it is another inside oneself, inside our personality, who passes through such confusions.

We all think that we would never pronounce those words of the Pharisee in the biblical parable: "God, I thank thee because I am not as the other men", etc. etc.

Nevertheless, and although it seems incredible, thus we proceed daily. The meat seller in the market says: "I am not like the other butchers who sell meat of bad quality and exploit the people"

The fabric seller in the shop exclaims: "I am not like other merchants who know how to steal when measuring and who have enriched themselves".

The milk seller affirms: "I am not like other milk sellers who put water in it. I like to be honest"

The lady of the house comments on a visit, the following: "I am not like so-and-so who goes about with other men, I am thank God a decent person and faithful to my husband".

Conclusion: The rest are wicked, unjust, adulterers, thieves and perverse and each one of us a meek sheep, a "Little Chocolate Saint" good for having as a golden child in some church..

How foolish we are!, we often think that we never do all these foolishnesses and perversities that we see others do and we arrive for such reason to the conclusion that we are magnificent persons, unfortunately we do not see the foolishnesses and meannesses that we do.

There exist strange moments in life in which the mind without worries of any class reposes. When the mind is quiet, when the mind is in silence then the new supervenes.

In such instants it is possible to see the bases, the foundations, upon which we rest.

The mind being in profound ulterior repose, we can verify for ourselves the crude reality of that sand of life, upon which we built the house. (See Matthew 7 - Verses 24-25-26-27-28-29; parable that deals with the two foundations)
